Chances are if you’ve been blogging for a while, you’ve got quite a few posts laying around. There are over 500 articles on FinanceIsPersonal.com alone from my last 7 months of writing, and that number keeps going up. Most bloggers know about making my by putting up ads from places like Google Adsense, Text Link Ads, and Commission Junction, but there’s another way to monetize one’s articles that most bloggers haven’t considered. Bloggers who write posts of any decent quality can submit their posts (articles) to a couple of different companies which will pay you for the right to republish your articles.
Associated Content is the major player in this game. They’ll pay you around $4.00 to $7.00 for every article of at least 400 words and of any decent quality that you submit. In addition, you’ll be paid an additional $1.50 for every 1000 hits that your articles receive. I submit nearly all of my articles there, about 80% of them are approved and I come home with around $400 or $450 a month from them, and another $30 to $40 for the “performance bonus” that they offer for the traffic that comes to your articles. It’s not a ton of money, but you’re getting paid more for the work that you’re already doing. The submission process is very straight forward and takes less than 5 minutes for each of your articles.
Helium is another place that bloggers can re-post their submissions. It doesn’t pay quite as much as Associated Content because it has no up-front payment, but does share a portion of their advertising income with their writers. I have about 300 articles up on the site right now and come home with about $30 a month from them. Posting articles to Helium certainly isn’t a priority, but it’s money that you didn’t have before, so why not take it?
Some might argue that posting your articles to multiple locations will damage your search engine rankings, but I simply have not found this to be the case. Perhaps this has something to do with the fact that the articles appear on my site at least a week before they show up on the other two sites, and by the time that those site’s have been indexed by search engines, mine’s already been indexed. Chances are it won’t hurt to have your articles published in two or three places. It’s not until you start getting your articles in dozens of places before it really starts to affect your rankings. My site’s getting very comparable search engine traffic compared to similar sites with similar traffic patterns, so the concern that it’ll effect one’s search engine rankings, just really doesn’t hold up.
You’re already doing the writing, and chances are you’re hopping to make some money in the process. Submitting your works to Associated Content and Helium is a great way to supplement your income in addition to what you make from AdSense and other sites.
